Pool Table Movers in Los Angeles

The split is easy to state. In this city the route is often harder than the table. A game room can sit near the top of one of the steepest streets in Los Angeles, historic districts put any exterior change under extra review, gated enclaves control who drives in, and some blocks are signed for permit parking. The sections below show how the crew plans for each, and how to line up the mechanic so nobody stands around waiting.

Permit parking districts and the truck

Parts of Los Angeles are Preferential Parking Districts: the City Council designates them, signs mark them, and parking there without a valid district permit risks a citation. LADOT's FAQ exempts commercial vehicles parked in a district for commercial work from that permit. Curb space is still the real issue: a table that comes apart leaves in several heavy pieces, and every extra yard to the truck is walked again for each one.

Before moving day, check the posted signs on your block and keep the driveway or the closest curb clear. The crew will tell you which stretch the truck needs so the carry stays short.

Gated enclaves and association rules

Fremont Place, a neighborhood a developer started in 1911, is a gated enclave with a 24-hour guard-gated entrance, and the Fremont Place Association maintains its grounds. Behind a guarded gate the truck should never be a surprise: tell the gate the moving date, the arrival window and what truck is coming, and ask where it may stand while the crew loads.

If the association or a building manager asks for a certificate of insurance, we issue one at $50 per building. When an association sets move hours or truck rules, send them over and the crew plans around them.

Steep streets and historic districts

Eldred Street, on the border of Highland Park and Mount Washington, is listed as the steepest street in Los Angeles and dead-ends into the Eldred Street Stairs. Baxter Street in Echo Park ranks among the steepest too; after navigation apps made it a shortcut and cars got stuck at the top, LADOT announced a 2018 safety plan with one-way segments and a four-way stop. On grades like these the crew finds level ground for the truck and checks which way traffic runs.

Angelino Heights, Highland Park-Garvanza, Hancock Park, Whitley Heights and Windsor Square are among the Historic Preservation Overlay Zones adopted by LA City Planning, where proposed exterior work goes through additional review. There the table leaves through the openings a house already has, so we ask for door and turn measurements ahead and pad frames and railings.

Truck routes, arrival windows and the hourly clock

Caltrans bars commercial vehicles over three tons from the Arroyo Seco Parkway, the stretch of SR-110 between the US-101 junction and Glenarm Street in Pasadena. A move between northeast Los Angeles and Pasadena is therefore planned on other roads.

Hourly billing starts from a three-hour minimum, and that floor rises to four hours if either address lies 30 or more miles outside the service area. We confirm a morning, midday or afternoon arrival window 24–48 hours ahead; book the mechanic's takedown to finish before that window opens, so you are not paying the crew to wait.

What Our Crew Does and What the Mechanic Does

Billiard shops tend to quote the move and the setup as one job, and a few warn against letting a moving company near a table at all. On the setup they have a point: getting a slate bed dead level and a cloth tight is a trade, and we don't claim it. What a moving crew brings is the part shops treat as a side task: getting a very heavy, awkward object out of one house and into another without marking walls, floors or the table.

That work sits inside our white glove service, next to art, antiques and pianos. On a pool table job our crew handles:

• the takedown and reassembly we would do on any large furniture, inside the hourly rate;
• moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape on every piece;
• the carry through doorways, down stairs and along driveways;
• loading, strapping the pieces down in the truck, and the drive;
• setting everything in the room where the table will stand.

The rest belongs to a billiard mechanic. You hire that specialist directly, and they handle:

• removing the cloth and stretching it back on, or replacing it;
• leveling the slate and filling the seams between its pieces;
• pockets, rail cushions and repairs;
• the final setup that makes the table ready to play.

How a Pool Table Shows Up on Your Bill

There is no pool table price as such. The job runs on the regular hourly rate for the crew and truck, listed on our moving rates page, and the table adds the $150 extra heavy item charge. Takedown and reassembly, blankets, shrink wrap and tape are covered by the rate, and stairs don't add a fee; they add minutes.

What moves the total is time: the number of steps between the game room and the truck, how far the truck stands from the door, the distance between addresses, and any wait for a takedown to finish. A table moved on its own still falls under the three-hour minimum, which becomes four hours when an address is 30 or more miles out.

Planning Moving Day Around the Mechanic

With a slate table, the order of visits matters more than the hour. When the table has to be opened, a well-run day looks like this:

1. The mechanic's takedown at the old home: cloth off, slate freed, small parts bagged.
2. Our crew arrives in the confirmed window, pads the pieces and carries them out with the rest of the load.
3. At the new home the crew sets the slate and frame in the game room itself, not in the garage for now, so nothing is carried twice.
4. The mechanic's setup visit: slate leveled, seams filled, cloth stretched, rails back on.

Book the takedown for the morning of the move or the day before, and the setup for after the crew has gone. Ask the mechanic where the pieces should lie in the room, so the setup starts without anyone shuffling slate across the floor.

Getting the House Ready for the Table

Most of the prep is measuring and clearing, and on an hourly job it saves real time. Before the crew comes:

• measure the narrowest door, hallway turn and stair landing at both homes, and send the numbers with the addresses;
• choose the table's spot in the new room, leaving space around it for a full cue stroke;
• clear rugs, planters and small furniture from the path, outdoor steps included;
• on a hillside lot, count every step from the street, not only the ones inside the house.
