Choosing a piano moving company in Laguna Niguel is partly about the instrument and partly about the address, because gates, association patrols and permit-only curbs decide where a truck can wait. The city counts more than 120 homeowner associations, and each one runs on its own CC&Rs while still answering to city ordinances. Two streets a block apart can treat a moving truck quite differently as a result. Before quoting, we ask which association covers each address and what its rules say about trucks, parking and working hours.

The piano is priced like any other hourly move with a crew of four, plus one $200 surcharge for the instrument. Spinets, consoles, uprights, baby grands and full grands are padded, wrapped, strapped down in the truck and placed in the spot you choose at the other end. What really differs from one address to the next is the approach: the gate, the curb and the path from the truck to the door.

Truck rules on residential streets

The city's police-services brochure sums up the code as keeping commercial trucks over 80 inches wide or 25 feet long from parking on public streets in a residence district, and it quotes a rule against such vehicles on any city street from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. We never stage the truck on your block overnight, and its spot during the carry is agreed in advance.

Some neighborhoods are permit parking districts: without a city decal, a car can be ticketed during the posted hours, guest passes are case by case, and some districts allow none. Residential streets are also swept twice a month, the day after trash pickup. Send your trash day and the hours on any permit signs, and we time the stop around both.

Associations, patrols and condo lots

The same brochure treats condo complexes as private property. In an HOA community a tow needs the signature of the association's president, a designee or an agent such as the security company, except for cars blocking a fire lane, an accessible space or an entrance or exit. The truck stays out of all three, and management tells us where it may stand.

At Bear Brand Ridge, the HOA's site says a private patrol enforces parking, cars may not block driveway aprons or sidewalks, and street parking is banned from 2 to 6 a.m. Any association or building that wants a certificate of insurance gets one for $50 per building.

Gated hillside streets and the path indoors

Bear Brand Ridge is a gated hillside community of 266 homes on Camino Del Avion and Pacific Crest. Its HOA site describes two lanes at the Pacific Crest gate, one for residents with a working opener and one for everyone else; at 9 p.m., once the evening guard is on duty, that keypad is switched off. Our truck uses the visitor lane and finishes well before evening.

Indoors, the crew blankets the floors and door frames from the piano to the truck and measures the tightest turn before lifting. Outside, with about 105 miles of residential streets against 35 of arterials, we check the approach to your door on a map first.

Crown Valley, Alicia, the I-5 and the clock

Crown Valley and Alicia parkways both run on synchronized signals. On Crown Valley the city, the county and Mission Viejo coordinated 30 signals, 15 of them in town, with less delay reported after the work ended in May 2016; Alicia was retimed from Crown Valley to Rustic Oak, 40 intersections with 12 in the city.

OCTA finished its I-5 South County improvements in 2025, with a lane added each way between Avery Parkway and Alicia Parkway, while The Toll Roads presents the 73, open since 1996, as an alternative to the I-5. The job runs by the hour with a 3-hour minimum, or 4 hours when it starts 30 or more miles from our service area, so the route is picked before the truck rolls.

How the Bill Is Built

We do not sell piano moving as a separate product with its own price list. The piano rides on an hourly job for four movers with a truck, $209 per hour from Monday to Thursday and $225 per hour from Friday to Sunday, and the instrument adds one $200 surcharge. The clock has a floor of 3 hours, or 4 when the move starts 30 or more miles from our service area, and hours past the eighth are billed at 1.5 times the rate. Blankets, stretch wrap and tape come with the rate, as does detaching a grand's legs and lyre and fitting them back. Seniors, military members and repeat customers get 5% off.

What moves the total is time: how far the piano travels inside each house, the steps between the door and the curb, where the truck can stand and the drive between the two addresses. That is why our first questions are about the route, not the piano's size.

What We Ask You to Sort Out Beforehand

Most of the preparation for a Laguna Niguel piano move is timing and paperwork rather than furniture. Tell your association the date and ask where a moving truck may stand, then pass our arrival window to the gate or the management company. If a pod or a dumpster is coming too, settle its spot first so it does not take the space the truck needs.

Inside, measure the narrowest door and the sharpest turn at both homes and send the numbers with your request, along with a photo of any outdoor steps or sloped walk. Clear everything off the lid and out of the bench the evening before, and decide where the piano will stand in the new room so the crew can carry it straight there.

The Carry, From Gate to Living Room

The truck comes through the gate in the lane agreed beforehand and parks in the spot management or the signs allow. Before anything is lifted, the crew walks the path, covers floors and door frames, closes and pads the keyboard lid and wraps the case in blankets and stretch wrap.

Four movers carry the piano out and strap it inside the truck so it cannot slide or tip on the drive. Unloading is the same routine reversed: path covered, piano carried in, a grand's legs and lyre refitted, wrapping removed and the instrument set in its new place.

Tuning is not part of our work. Most tuners prefer to come once the piano has had some time to settle in its new room, so book yours for a later date rather than moving day.

Piano-Only Company, Full-Service Mover or Doing It Yourself

Many piano movers serving Orange County move nothing but pianos, which suits a job where the instrument is the only thing leaving the house. When it is one item in a whole-home move, a second company means two arrival windows, two trucks and two sets of gate and parking arrangements on the same street.

Moving a piano with friends and a rented truck is the option to rule out first. Even a small upright is heavy and top-heavy, and a grand has to come off its legs before it fits through most doors. That carry is the reason every piano job gets four movers.

One Booking for the Piano and the Household
